Traditional Gluhwein Speciality

Gluhwein is spiced red wine, served hot, after centuries old recipes. Wine was first recorded as spiced and heated in the First Century in Rome from where the mulled wine developed over Europe. The Romans traveled around, conquering much of Europa and trading with the rest and did spread the popular winter drink all over the countries.

Gluhwein is usually prepared from red wine, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star aniseed, citrus, sugar and at times vanilla pods. It is sometimes drunk mit Schuss (with a shot), which means that rum or some other liquor has been added. Fruit wines, such as blueberry wine and cherry wine, are occasionally used instead of grape wine in some parts of Germany. There is also a variation of Gluhwein which is made with white wine.

Today Gluhwein is well known all over Germany, France, Italy and Spain, it may not only be made from wine, but also non-aloholic with apple juice. Recipes vary, ours is passed in the family since more than 200 years. With our Gluhwein Spices you will get a perfect HOT RED WINE - your favorite drink in winter.
